Flat flexible cables are connection devices that transmit electrical energy and signals in a flat form. Their working principle is based on the synergistic effect of conductor conductivity, insulation, and structural flexibility. Through special structural design and material selection, they can achieve high-density, low-loss electrical connections within a limited space, meeting the miniaturization and dynamic wiring requirements of modern electronic equipment.

Structurally, flat flexible cables consist of multiple parallel metal conductors laminated with upper and lower insulating films. The conductors often use high-conductivity copper foil with a plating layer to reduce contact resistance and improve oxidation resistance; the insulation layer commonly uses polyester or polyimide film, which possesses excellent electrical insulation and mechanical flexibility. Reliable electrical isolation is achieved between the conductors through the films, forming independent signal or power paths. When current flows through the conductors, due to the regular cross-sectional shape and controllable spacing, the current distribution is uniform, and the impedance consistency is high, thereby reducing signal attenuation and crosstalk.

During operation, flat flexible cables can handle both DC or low-frequency power transmission and high-frequency signal transmission. Its flat structure shortens the coupling path between conductors, and combined with a uniform spacing design, it makes the electric and magnetic field distribution more stable, improving anti-interference performance. Simultaneously, due to its thin overall thickness and flexibility, it can be laid in confined spaces or moving parts within equipment, and when subjected to bending stress, the elasticity of the substrate maintains the relative position between conductors, ensuring stable electrical parameters.

Furthermore, the precise positioning and compression of the cover layer and bonding area allow for multi-point synchronous contact when the cable is mated with the connector, reducing assembly errors and improving connection reliability. In dynamic applications, the minor deformation of the cable caused by the movement of the mechanism does not significantly change the conductor geometry, thus maintaining transmission quality.

Overall, flat flexible cables utilize the basic principle of conductor conductivity and insulation medium isolation, combined with flat and flexible design, to achieve efficient space utilization, stable signal transmission, and mechanical adaptability, becoming an indispensable connection carrier in modern electronic systems.
